Despite moderate differences between crude oil produced across the globe, crude oil markets provide unparalleled liquidity and 24-hour access. The United States’ West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil, together with the United Kingdom’s Brent North Sea crude oil, account for a majority of futures and options trading.
The standard trade quantity is a multiple of 1,000 barrels. Hedgers can access ample liquidity for most contracts between the current month and 5 years out. NYMEX WTI futures and options are physically settled at Cushing, Oklahoma, or financially settled.
